CPRD COMMENTS February 7, 2008

PARK DISTRICT RESIDENTS RECEIVE OVERPAYMENT REFUNDS
After the vote that gave all regular park district residents memberships, there were some previous paying members that had a pre-paid membership credit balance. These pre-paid memberships covered beyond the resident membership period. The CPRD board felt very strongly that persons living within the park district should get any excess balance of money back to them due to the resident membership program.
Last week CPRD sent out checks to all persons who were residents of the park district and had a credit balance as of January 1, 2007 which is the date the resident membership program took effect. We now are pleased to see many more citizens utilize program for themselves and their families. Because of the increased use by our taxpaying citizens the unique resident membership program is viewed as a great success.

SWIMMING POOL RENOVATION WORK
In a brief period of warmer weather workers began repairs on the community center swimming pool on January 24th. The work involved welding new stainless steel gutter inserts into place. The pool gutter inserts will level the entire perimeter. The gutter level was as much as 3 ½ inches lower in the southern and eastern areas. This phase of work completed on January 27th.
The next phase of the work will begin when temperatures reach a consistent 40 degree temperature probably in late March or early April. The remaining work will include patching of the pool walls and floor areas with an epoxy resin grout. They will also fill in the ladder steps and new ladders will be installed that mount on the pool deck and rest on bumpers against the pool wall. All the ladders will stay where they are except for the waterslide area ladder. It will be moved about 8 feet to the east to allow a safer distance from the flume of the waterslide and farther out from the current of water from the slide. Once the ladder is relocated, swimmers will exit near the bottom steps of the waterslide. This will also allow lifeguards more room to assist the persons coming off the slide.
The final work will include gluing a felt like material to the pool interior with glue. This will provide a protective cushion for the new PVC liner. The PVC liner will be custom fitted to the contours of the pool and will be heat welded together to eliminate any leak potential. The liner will be light blue in color with black lane lines welded into the bottom of the liner. Once this project is completed we will have a durable and non-leaking pool interior. The final benefit of the liner will be that the pool will be easily cleaned with mild detergents rather than chemicals and we will no longer have to paint it again. All this work will make the pool look better and cost less money for years to come.

DID YOU KNOW?
The first pick-up truck in the world was made by Gottlieb Daimler in 1886. Gottlieb produced the world's first motorcycle in 1885. Gottlieb Daimler also built the world's first taxi in 1897. It was called the Daimler Victoria and had a taxi meter. On 16 June of that year the taxi was delivered to Stuttgart transportation entrepreneur Friedrich Greiner who used it to start the world's first motorized taxi company.
