DAMAGED RACQUETBALL COURT TO BE REPAIRED FOR THE SAME USE
The racquetball court at the community center received water damage after a very
wet May that destroyed the former existing hardwood floor. CPRD is committed to
reinstalling a new hardwood floor with racquetball markings after hearing from
numerous citizens that wanted the floor to return. The floor will be replaced
after a water collection device is installed otherwise the floor would be
exposed to the same threat from water damage.
Initial plans are to install an interior foundation drain on the west and south
sides. This would include cutting out concrete installing collection pipe and
locating a sump pump for water collection and removal outside the court area.
Once this is designed we will have that work done and then have the hardwood
flooring contractor install the new floor. The contractor has been contacted and
an engineer is scheduled to be here in conjunction with the pool remodel
tentatively scheduled for mid-January.
We would prefer to have the floor ready for use now but it is important to
devise a method to intercept the water that led to the damage. Water has been
seeping under the floor and into the hall for many years so it is important to
take the opportunity to try and fix the problem now. We will expedite the
repairs as soon as possible but it is realistic that the court won’t be repaired
until late this winter or early spring.
ADDITIONAL HOUR ADDED TO NEW WEEKEND HOURS
Recently the community center fall, winter & spring hours were changed to 8:00
AM to 2:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday. We have extended each day by 1 hour to
close at 3:00 PM due to public input. We will continue those hours as long as
the extra hour is in fact used regularly by the weekend users. If we have the
attendance it is a good thing for the community. We will monitor the usage for
utilization. The original switch has proved very successful in more usage so we
expect the extra hour will also be beneficial and justified.
Thanks for your input without it the hours would have never changed and we would
have had an empty building in late afternoons instead of a busy morning early
afternoon schedule.
DID YOU KNOW?
The first vending machine was invented by Hero of Alexandria around 215 BC. When
a coin was dropped into a slot, its weight would pull a cork out of a spigot and
the machine would dispense a trickle of water.
