CPRD BOARD ELECTIONS
Elections for Colstrip Park and Recreation District board of commissioners will be held May 6th, 2008 the first Tuesday in May. There are 4 open positions that carry a 4-year term and a single 2-year term that is an unexpired term that must be filled by election. Those persons interested in filing must fully complete and submit an Oath of Candidacy Form and Nomination Petition as required by state law. Copies of these forms and election information such as filing deadlines are available at the community center front desk or the Rosebud County clerk & recorder office at the county courthouse in Forsyth.
These positions are non-paid and require at least one evening per month usually on the last Wednesday of each month plus committee meetings and any special meetings that are called. All candidates must reside within the park district boundaries

SWIMMING POOL RENOVATION WORK SCHEDULED TO START
Unless the weather gets much worse, we have been advised that workers intend to begin repairs on the community center swimming pool this Thursday January 24th. The first phase of the work would be gutter modification. This task would involve welding new stainless steel gutter inserts into place. Once installed the pool gutter will return to being level as originally designed around the entire perimeter. Currently the gutter level is as much as 3 ½ inches lower in the southern and eastern areas. (Deep end near Water & Park streets) This improvement would allow the gutter and skimmer to work properly.
The next phase of the work will be patching of the pool walls and floor area with an epoxy resin grout. The pool has lost up to 6 inches of water per day due to numerous holes located at or just below the bottom of the gutter. These holes will be patched to not only eliminate possible leakage but more importantly to provide a solid surface to glue and install a new PVC liner onto.
The above work can occur in cold weather but the PVC liner will require at least 40 degree temperatures to allow the glue to cure on the PVC liner membrane or fabric that attaches to the wall as a cushion for the liner. That work will most likely have to occur this spring.
The contractor has until June 1st to complete the work or according to the contact is subject to a monetary penalty each day until substantial completion.

DID YOU KNOW?
At the second modern Olympic Games contested in Paris in 1900, the most unusual event to be held was underwater swimming. It was decided prior to the competition that two points would be awarded for each meter swum underwater. In addition, one point was added to the scoring of each individual for every second he stayed below the surface. Much to the delight of the locals, Frenchman Charles de Venderville won the event swimming 60 meters and staying submerged for 1min 8.4sec. Denmark's Peder Lykkeberg stayed underwater for a longer period, one and a half minutes, but only managed to travel 28.5 meters. This was the first and only time underwater swimming was held at the Olympic Games.

QUOTE OF THE DAY
“In my retirement I go for a short swim at least once or twice every day. It's either that or buy a new golf ball.” ~Gene Perret
