SOME IMPROVEMENTS AT SOUTH STREET FIELDS OCCURRING
The CPRD board has approved the purchase of a new storage trailer for the South Fields. It will replace the current trailer that has become undesirable. This trailer will serve as a location for baseball supplies. In the future other improvements are being looked at including permanent ADA restrooms concessions and storage building. It also the intention of CPRD to improve the parking and traffic flow at the facility as well.
South Fields has many shortcomings that the park district is trying to address as soon as possible. Buildings are always big ticket items and require additional funding from grants and other sources. Improvements cannot occur all at once with additional revenue so it is likely that improvements will be phased in.
The old trailer used for storage is now being readied for removal and the recently purchased storage trailer will arrive some around the 18th of March or shortly afterwards.
South Fields are important to the park district and will be improved.
GOLF SEASON HAPPENING SOON
The golf maintenance crew started removing greens covers on Monday March 10th. Glenn Godfrey our golf pro officially begins his duties on March 15th but will most likely be in town sooner as he has accepted the golf coaching position at the high school. After the covers are removed the greens will begin to be mowed. They normally come out of the winter pretty shaggy and it will take time to lower their height to normal expectations.
This early in the year it is important to understand that the greens may not be open first thing in the morning if they have frost. They need to thaw or will receive unnecessary damage. In early season it usually means later in the day usually early afternoon. The greens will open depending on weather and temperature conditions.
DID YOU KNOW?
Golf courses delay play on frost-covered turf (especially greens) because stepping on frost-covered grass causes the frozen leaf cells to rupture. The turf will turn brown and eventually die.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
“The trouble that most of us find with the modern matched sets of clubs is that they don't really seem to know any more about the game than the old one's did!"-Robert Browning, A History of Golf
