CPRD COMMENTS October 25, 2007

HALLOWEEN PARTY SET FOR SUNDAY

CPRD will once again host a community Halloween fun night. The event will occur this Sunday beginning at 5:00 PM and lasting until 7:00 PM. Events include carnival games, a haunted house and costume judging. Admission to the event requires an item for the food bank or donation. Any donations of money should be made by check to insure the money is properly acknowledged.

SOCCER SEASON ENDS

The fall youth soccer program just completed the season last week. The weather was pretty decent this year for the majority of the season. We appreciate all the volunteer coaches and supportive parents to help make this program a success. A program like this could not occur without our volunteers. We hope that all the participants and coaches enjoyed their season and took pride in sportsmanship and learning and improving their knowledge and skills. Youth basketball is just around the corner

POOL LINER WORK TO BEGIN

Contracts are signed, the pool is drained and work is set to begin shortly on repairing a very leaky swimming pool at the community center. Originally the project called for shallowing the deep end but after bids were opened it was necessary to eliminate that portion of the project to stay within the expected cost estimate. The work will include making all necessary repairs to all the masonry areas of the pool especially the upper section near the gutters where the concrete has fractured causing a loss of up to 6 inches of water per evening. That is a great deal of money and waste literally going down the drain.

A very sturdy liner will be installed that will be marked with lane lines. This renovation has been used in many pool repairs as an effective but much less expensive alternative to a new pool shell of other material. The fact that the pool shell will now be made of PVC will eliminate the need for painting. Painting of pools is very labor intensive and the cost of paint is outrageous. A paint job may last 3 seasons and will deteriorate.

Because of settling the pool is about 3 and one-half inches lower on the southeast corner. The other part of this renovation will be the installation of gutter inserts that will raise all gutters to the same level. This will insure more effective filtering of the pool. The successful low bid contractor will do the work this fall. The original expectation was that the work wouldn’t be completed until June of next year. The contractor has indicated their intention of completing this project before the end of the year. This is welcome news as it will not cause any interruption in our normal pool schedule.

The PVC liner is heat welded and workers can perform this part of the project in temperatures as low as 10 degrees. Our pool is about 30 years old and this improvement should very easily give us another 30 years. We are both relieved and excited about the necessary renovation. The successful bidder was Renosys Corporation of Indianapolis and they are the leading company in this type of construction.

DID YOU KNOW?
The only two days of the year in which there are no professional sports games (MLB, NBA, NHL, or NFL) are the day before and the day after the Major League all-stars Game.
