RESIDENT MEMBERSHIP REPORT
After a full summer season with the resident membership program in place, CPRD
would like to share the outcomes and observations made to date. Our number of
members increased significantly. Many of these persons were first time members
or persons who hadn’t been a member for quite some time. We signed up a total of
just under 2,000 resident members as of August 31, 2007.
Observations made to date are that the community center was busier but the
biggest area of growth was times when the building was normally pretty empty.
Many of the new members didn’t necessarily want to take already organized busy
times but perhaps work out in an atmosphere less structured and less populated
for any number of reasons. The community center is being utilized more often by
more people.
Golf course usage increased but less than expected. There were certainly many
more people that used the course more often but to get a tee time is still not a
very tough challenge. We are still not a busy golf course. We did have very
little play in May that would be directly affected by the unusual rain that
dominated the month. We recorded more precipitation (over 8 inches) which is the
highest amount recorded by local means.
Individual classes had some waiting lists specifically in swim lessons and some
youth instruction classes. Having waiting lists in swimming was occurring prior
to this new membership program so it wasn’t unexpected. We did create additional
sessions or meeting times to handle additional turnouts in the youth
instructional programs. This includes additional tumbling classes this fall
after the sign-up resulted in a waiting list.
The wear and tear to the community center has been as normal and there has not
been any vandalism. The biggest demand that has occurred has been additional
laundering of towels due to building usage and the nursery has experienced
significant growth that has stretched our resources but has been manageable so
far. We have had a slight increase in children being left unattended which has
been resolved by CPRD staff.
In summary the resident membership program caused more citizens residing in the
park district to access the offerings and facilities with no apparent negative
effects. The program seems to be working as intended by the CPRD board.
DID YOU KNOW?
In Shakespeare's time, mattresses were secured on bed frames by ropes. When you
pulled on the ropes the mattress tightened, making the bed firmer to sleep on.
Hence the phrase "goodnight, sleep tight."
