Child Behavior Guidelines

Children who cry uncontrollably for an extended period of time (10 - 15 minutes) will be returned to their parents.

Reasonable child Behavior Problems

Reasonable Child behavior problems (i.e. not sharing, not listening to staff, other discourteous behavior) will be dealt with by:

Step 1.  Placing the Child in time out and discussing appropriate behavior with the child.
Step 2.  If the behavior is continual, parents will be informed.  Unmanageable children will be returned to their parents for the day.

Severe Child Behavior Problems

Children exhibiting Severe Child Behavior problems that put other children and/or staff at risk of personal injury (i.e. hitting, kicking, biting, or other forceful, physical behavior) will be dealt with in the following Manner:

Step 1. A. The Child will be placed in time out.  (The child care staff reserves the right to determine, based on child's age and the incident, whether a child will be placed in time out or returned to the parent.  Unmanageable children who refuse to sit in time out and reasoned with will be returned to the parent for that day.
B. An incident report will be filled out.
C. Parents will be given an official warning
by the Child Care staff that informs them of their child's behavior and warns them that if the behavior should reoccur their child will be moved to Step 2 under Severe Behavior Problems.

Step 2. If the severe behavior reoccurs after the official warning has been given, the parents will be asked to remove their child from the child care facility for a period of two weeks.

Step 3. After the two week period, parents may return their child to the child care facility.  If the severe behavior reoccurs a new incident report will be completed and the parents will be immediately requested to remove their child from the child care facility for another 2 week period.  After 2 weeks the child will again be allowed to return to the child care facility and will remain on Step 2 for severe behavior until they are able to remain incident free fro a period of six months from their most recent incident.

NOTE:  If when allowed to return to the Child Care facility the child remains without incident for 6 months then all prior behavior records will be deleted.

The CPRD Child Care Staff reserves the right to distinguish between reasonable and serve child behavior.
